I have recently been ask about a project to open a safe house for abused women in DeKalb County.

To me it would seems a very good and much needed project for the county to get behind.

I have never had to deal with this myself, but I know to many women who have, and having a safe place to go seems to me to be a good first step.

 Since people have so many opinions about the marriage vote, I thought I would see what anyone thinks about the new insurance deal at Nissan.

The Nissan Company is planning to let a Gay parter be on the workers insurance if they have lived together for as long as 2 years. The big issue is that they are not offering this option if you are a man and woman living together.

So what..... do you think that's FAIR? 

On the ballet this coming election we will be voting on whether or not to give gays the right to legally marry in this state.

Did you know that if you vote NO you are voting FOR gay marriage?

Did you know that if you vote YES you are voting for a man and a woman to marry (as it is now)?

Did you know that if you vote YES (which is against gay marriage) but do not vote for a Governor YOUR Vote WILL NOT COUNT!

If you want to vote against gay marriage vote YES and vote for someone for Governor.

If you want to vote for gay marriage vote NO or don't vote at all.... this will cast your vote for gay marriage also, because there must be a certain number of Yes votes to beat this law.

Note: The people at the election polls are NOT allowed to tell you this even if you ask them! so read this part of the ballet very carefully when you cast your vote!

The last meeting of the Town of Alexandria was ended very early because a quorum was not met.

Major David Cripps called the meeting but without enough there to vote, the meeting was canceled until a later date, which was to be announced, or until the regular Oct. meeting.

City meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month unless otherwise announced. They are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come out and be apart of the system.

If you have moved here from out of town you will find the small town government quite unusual and somewhat entertaining. In my time here in Alexandria, (47 years)  I have seen fights, yelling, and total chaos at city meeting.

Eveyone at the meetings should be aware that anything you say can and will be used in connection with your name forever after. Also remember that, there is at least one person kin to everyone you talk to or about.

When you go to a city meeting you may think to yourself, "I would do this so different".  You must remember that the key to living with small town politics is...smile (no laughing out loud), be patient and don't hurt anyone feeling, remember these people have long memories.

So be VERY appreciative of the folks who for absolutely no pay, no glory and no peace will actually run for this job! They are trying hard to not laugh, not yell, not hurt anyone feeling, make everyone happy, and keep Alexandria a nice place to live.

In 1973 our local Lions Club chapter decided to put a sign at the entrance of Alexandria.

Many different ideas for the wording on the sign were discussed and after much consideration it was decided that the billboard should read.......

Over the years we have all had to endure many hours of jokes and teasing about this sign. We have seen it on every news cast ever filmed here and its picture in every headline that has been written about our town. I take the jokes and the teasing all in stride because, deep down inside, I really believe it's true.
